• 2-2: The Villarreal pesca in the bronca del Metropolitano, by Julián and by Hernández Hernández.

FC Villarreal was able to take a point in the away game at Atletico Madrid. The game ended 2-2, with the hosts disagreeing with a strict referee, Spaniard Hernández Hernández. The hosts took the lead in the 3rd minute with a goal from Morata, who headed in a cross from Llorente to make it 1-0. The lead was extended in the second half with another goal from Morata (54th minute). However, Villarreal did not give in and were able to score the next goal through Gerard Moreno in the 59th minute. In the 90th minute, the guests managed to equalize through Álvaro Fernández, which was no longer thought possible. The game was very competitive and was marked by many fouls. The referee showed a total of 14 yellow cards, 8 of them to Atletico Madrid players. The stadium's players were also dissatisfied with Hernández Hernández's performance and made it clear in the form of whistles, especially when he substituted Griezmann in the 83rd minute. The situation surrounding Julián Álvarez, who was watching the game from the stands, also caused a stir. Many Atletico Madrid supporters had expected the Manchester City player to enter the stadium to be celebrated by fans after the game. However, this was not in the nature of a celebration, but more of a test of how popular Álvarez would be among Atletico supporters in order to then plan a possible return to the club. The whistles and shouts for Álvarez that were heard before the game and during the game became louder when Griezmann, known for his popularity among Atletico fans, was substituted by coach Diego Simeone in the 83rd minute. However, the situation with Álvarez caused amusement among the Villarreal supporters and they found it very funny when the Atletico Madrid fans loudly announced how much they appreciated him at the moment by shouting for Álvarez in the 83rd minute. They found this particularly funny because it wasn't really evidence of great popularity among Atletico Madrid fans, but rather a test campaign by Julián.

What happens next

Villarreal will look to use this momentum in the upcoming Primera Division games to move up the table. The next game could be crucial for the season forecast as it will be against a direct competitor in the relegation battle. Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, have to refocus after this draw in order not to jeopardize their title ambitions.
