Chelsea is considering transfer for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano

According to Bbc.

Background

Emiliano Martinez has established himself as one of the Premier League's best goalkeepers and could provide crucial support to Chelsea next season. His availability in the transfer market, especially following Aston Villa's signing of Zion Suzuki, makes him an interesting target for Chelsea, who are desperate to improve their goalkeeping position.

Why this is important

The potential transfer of Emiliano Martinez to Chelsea could significantly strengthen the Premier League club's goalkeeping position, especially given Robert Sanchez's underwhelming performances. Martinez, an experienced Argentina international, brings not only quality but also international experience that could be crucial for Chelsea in the current season. Additionally, this move could impact the dynamics of the transfer market during the summer transfer window as Aston Villa have already signed a replacement.

Chelsea FC have started considering a transfer for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The 33-year-old Argentina international has been contacted by London officials, indicating the club's interest in signing Martinez in the upcoming transfer window. Martinez is considered available for a move, especially after Aston Villa recently signed Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma for around £30 million. This transaction could pave the way for another transfer between Chelsea and Villa. The two clubs maintain a close business relationship, which has already been characterized by several transactions in the past. Chelsea signed striker Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a club record £117 million, while Alejandro Garnacho moved to Villa on loan in return. Another player mentioned in connection with Chelsea and Villa is striker Nicolas Jackson, whose market value is around £65 million. Jackson could also move to Villa and work with his former coach Unai Emery again. In recent weeks there have also been rumors about a possible transfer of Martinez to Juventus. However, these negotiations failed as concerns arose about the goalkeeper's finger injury. Juventus have instead opted to sign goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham on loan. Chelsea's reflections come at a time when the performances of their current first goalkeeper Robert Sanchez are under criticism in the Premier League. In the first league game against Fulham, Sanchez was beaten at the near post by Josh King's shot and also had another shot ricocheted into a dangerous area, giving Gonzalo Garcia the opportunity to score. Despite these mistakes, Chelsea won the game 3-2. Manager Xavi Alonso initially defended Sanchez after the game and was again questioned about his goalkeeping ahead of the upcoming Carabao Cup match against Luton Town. He explained: "No, we had normal conversations. We talked more about team performance, what we did well and what we need to do better. It was more about understanding the context. Every game will be important because we are in a process where we still need to develop things and make adjustments that are more team-related." Chelsea have also added Mike Penders, the second goalkeeper who made a successful return from his loan spell at Strasbourg last season, to the squad. Alonso commented on Penders, saying: "He's in the squad so he has a chance. We'll decide and inform the players tomorrow, so I'd rather expect them to know first."

What happens next

Should Chelsea show serious interest in Martinez, this could lead to further negotiations between the two clubs, who have worked successfully together in the past. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are willing to commit the funds necessary to sign Martinez, especially after Juventus were previously interested in him. The situation could also affect other players such as Nicolas Jackson, whose move to Villa is also being discussed.
