Chelsea FC opened the 2023/24 Premier League season with a narrow but important win against Fulham. The team won 1-0 on Monday evening and impressed not only their own fans but also the English media. The center of attention was Cole Palmer, who presented himself as an outstanding player. The BBC reported that Palmer stole the show in the opening game under coach Xabi Alonso. His style of play was so dynamic that he was almost unstoppable for the Fulham defense. After the game, Xabi Alonso expressed his satisfaction with the young Englishman's performance: "I'm very happy for him. It was fun to watch him, how much dynamism he brings to his game and the freedom he has. He has a lot of responsibility, but we need that as a team. When Cole feels comfortable, we have a better team." The London Evening Standard, which gave Palmer and his teammate João Pedro the highest rating of 8, praised his tireless work. Palmer was rewarded for his strong performance by scoring both a goal and providing a crucial assist, marking the perfect start to the season for him. The Daily Mail expressed confidence in the possibilities Chelsea have this season. However, the newspaper noted that although many new players were signed, the signing of a new goalkeeper was neglected. This referred to a mistake by Robert Sánchez in the game against Fulham. Despite this weakness, experts believe Chelsea can seriously challenge for the Premier League title with Palmer on board. Another advantage for Chelsea is that they have no European commitments this season, which allows them more rest and focus on the league. However, the nine other clubs, including Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool, must contend with the additional challenges of European competitions. Overall, the start of the season gives hope for an exciting Premier League season in which Cole Palmer could play a key role. His development and form will be closely watched by fans and pundits alike as Chelsea head towards title contention. With the right performances, Palmer can not only win the hearts of Chelsea fans, but also have a crucial impact on the team's success.

What happens next

With Palmer in top form, Chelsea FC are expected to continue to rely on his dynamism and creativity in the coming games.
