Background

James Trafford, a talented 20-year-old goalkeeper, will move from Manchester City to Leeds United, where he will take on the role of starting goalkeeper. It was clear for a long time that James Trafford would leave Manchester City. Trafford was City's second goalkeeper last season, behind Gianluigi Donnarumma. It would be unfair to reduce the talented young goalkeeper to this role because Trafford is far too good and ambitious to be just the backup keeper. A change this summer was always on the cards, and now things have become more concrete. According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Leeds United have agreed a deal with Manchester City on a transfer for James Trafford. Leeds United will pay a transfer fee of £40 million, plus bonuses, to Manchester City. Leeds United have been looking for a new starting goalkeeper this summer as Karl Darlow, who was Leeds' number one last season, has moved to Manchester United. Leeds have now decided to sign a talented young goalkeeper like Trafford instead of an experienced goalkeeper like Darlow to fill the vacant position in goal. It is now just a formality until Trafford moves from City to Leeds. It's hard to begrudge James Trafford a move to Leeds United, or indeed the Premier League. The 20-year-old has the goal of becoming number one in the England national team and to achieve that goal he needs to play regularly. At Manchester City he would never have had the chance to be number one because Gianluigi Donnarumma plays there. At Leeds Unit ed, however, he will be the undisputed number one. He will come straight into manager Daniel Farke's starting XI and it is now up to Trafford to fulfill his great potential and show that he has what it takes to become one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. It is unfortunate that Manchester City can no longer rely on Trafford's services as they would have liked him to be City's number one in the future. But to do that he would first have had to vacate the position behind Donnarumma, which would not have been the case in the foreseeable future. So it's only logical that Trafford wants a move. A move to Leeds United in the Premier League is an optimal solution for him. As soon as the formalities are clarified, James Trafford will move from Manchester City to Leeds United and take on the role of starting goalkeeper.

What happens next

With the impending move, James Trafford is expected to become first choice in goal for Leeds United, giving him the chance to establish himself in the Premier League. Leeds United will continue to look for further reinforcements in the transfer market to strengthen the team for the coming season. Trafford will focus on improving his performance and pursuing his ambitions of becoming number one in the England national team.
