According to Soccernews.

Background

Harry Kane, who played a crucial role in the victory, has established himself as a key player for Bayern Munich. His influence on the game and his ability to score in crucial moments could be of great importance for the entire season, especially in the Bundesliga, where the competition is strong.

Why this is important

Bayern Munich's victory in the Supercup against Borussia Dortmund not only boosted the team's morale, but also underlined the importance of a successful start to the season. In the rivalry between these two Bundesliga clubs, winning a title at the start of the season sends a strong signal to the competition. In addition, Bayern has further consolidated its dominance in the Supercup, while Dortmund is faced with a weak record in this competition.

Harry Kane expressed his satisfaction with Bayern Munich's 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Supercup and highlighted the importance of starting the season with a win.
Kane revels in Bayern’s Supercup success against Dortmund.

Harry Kane is convinced that Bayern Munich's victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup was "an important success at the start of the season". At Signal Iduna Park, Bayern won 2-1 after Nathaniel Brown and Michael Olise scored in the first half, with Fabio Silva's goal ultimately counting as a correction. Ramy Bensebaini was also sent off by Dortmund. Bayern celebrated their 12th win in the Supercup and won five of the last six editions, with their only defeat during this period coming against RB Leipzig in 2023. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, has lost its last three Supercup games, making it the club's worst losing streak in the competition (Bayern had also lost three in a row between 2013-14 and 2015-16).

Kane stressed the importance of a successful start to the season with a title, especially in the rivalry against Dortmund. "It was an important win to start the season, especially away against Borussia Dortmund," said Kane. "It was a good start. We had a few chances to decide the game. We didn't manage to do it, so despite our dominance the score remained 2-0. That's always a dangerous result because things can get close again. That's what happened, but in the end we're happy that it was enough." Since their Supercup win over Stuttgart (2-1) last season, Bayern have scored in 56 consecutive competitive games, scoring an incredible 186 goals. Olise was not involved in goals in the last Supercup season, but was directly involved in both of Bayern's goals against Dortmund (one goal, one assist). This was his 15th competitive game for Bayern with at least one goal and one assist. Coach Vincent Kompany praised his team's ability to get the game over time, especially players like Olise who had a shortened preparation. "It was a very good first half. We also showed a lot of will in the second half," said Kompany. "You saw the heart and character of the team. Some boys only trained a few times and played 90 minutes today - that's impressive. The most important thing is the mentality, and it was exactly right. We won today. From tomorrow the focus will be on the next game. Today we are satisfied and happy, but tomorrow we are hungry for more again," concluded the coach.

What happens next

After this important victory, Bayern Munich will go into the upcoming Bundesliga season with increased self-confidence. The team will try to take the positive energy from this success to underline their league title ambitions. For Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, it will be crucial to end the series of defeats and quickly rehabilitate themselves in order not to lose sight of their goals for the season.
