Malen leads Fiorentina back with nightmare debut against Roma

According to Tuttomercatoweb.

Background

Donyell Malen, who scored three goals for Roma in this game, has established himself as one of the best strikers in the league. His impressive debut could put him in the spotlight of other Serie A clubs as Fiorentina grapple with how to strengthen their attack to avoid similar defeats in the future.

Why this is important

Fiorentina's 4-0 defeat against Roma is a serious setback for the team, which started the new Serie A season with high expectations. Despite strong preparation, the Viola were unable to build on their performance and appeared weak and fragile in the game. Malen's hat-trick, however, highlights him as a potential top scorer and could redefine expectations for him this season.

Fiorentina were defeated 4-0 by Roma at the Olympic Stadium in the first game of the new Serie A season. Fabio Grosso's team was dominated by Roma throughout the season. The player of the match was Donyell Malen, who scored three times for Roma. It may still be August and the transfer market is still open so teams can change from day to day, but Fiorentina's performance against Roma was a major setback for the Viola, who had started their first game of the season with high expectations. However, Fiorentina were unable to build on their good preparation and appeared weak, fragile and without any resistance in the game against Roma. Donyell Malen, on the other hand, confirmed that he will be a hot contender for the title of top scorer this season: after a poor World Cup performance and a difficult summer, Roma's Dutch striker proved in the first game of the season that he could have been of much more use to Fiorentina with his goals.

However, Fiorentina was unable to stop Roma's attacking play and Malen was able to score three goals. He is the first player since Carlos Bacca to score a hat-trick at the start of the season in 2016. After the game, Fiorentina coach Fabio Grosso expressed his disappointment with his team's performance: "We are very disappointed. We know that we have to work a lot to improve. I told the team that we had to do everything we could and lavorare, lavorare, lavorare," said Grosso. However, he did not want to doubt Roma's superiority: "This is a team that, per ora va più forte di tutte e noi dobbiamo fare in modo di accorciare questo divario. Venire qui e fare meglio di questo è difficult, dobbiamo lavorare per essere più forti". Another player who has been widely discussed in the run-up to the game is Moise Kean, who was considered by many pundits to be the player to score the most goals for Fiorentina this season, but he was not included in Grosso's starting XI for the game against Roma. What happens next

Fiorentina will now look to bounce back quickly from this defeat while the transfer market remains open and possible squad changes are pending. Fabio Grosso urgently needs to rethink his team's defensive strategies in order to be more competitive in the coming games. Malen, on the other hand, will go into the next few games with the confidence from this game and could play a key role for Roma in Serie A.
