Italian coach Enzo Maresca continues to work on shaping his own Manchester City. After his signing a few weeks ago, which involved the difficult task of compensating for the absence of Pep Guardiola, the coach who gave the club the most successful era in its history, Maresca now wants to shape his own era. To achieve this, all decisions are of great importance to him, and one of the most important concerns the captain's armband of the team. According to information from the Football Insider portal, Maresca has decided that Julián Álvarez is one of the options he has in mind for the future captaincy question. The Argentine has emerged as one of Maresca's key players this season, although he has been somewhat pushed back in his centre-forward position by the signing of Erling Haaland. However, Álvarez is a player who has already scored many important goals for the team this season and his attitude and training efforts are highly valued by Maresca. He also already has experience as a captain, as he was allowed to wear the armband in a few games for the Argentina national team. Another option Maresca is considering is Phil Foden. The Englishman is another product of Manchester City's youth academy and has also developed into a key player that no coach would want to miss from the team. Foden is seen by many as the club's future star and his attitude is also described as exemplary. A third option is Ruben Dias, who Maresca has used surprisingly a lot this season. The Portuguese centre-back is one of the best in his position in the world and Maresca has a lot of trust in him, which is why he has used him often this season. However, the decision on the future captain's armband will depend on another, even more important decision from Maresca, namely whether Rodri, the current captain, will continue to wear the armband in the future. Rodri has attracted a lot of interest from various clubs this season, particularly Barcelona, and it is believed that he will leave the club during the next transfer window. If this is the case, it is very likely that Maresca will name one of the three players mentioned as the new captain.

What happens next

Maresca is expected to continue analyzing his players' strengths and weaknesses to make the best choice for the captaincy. The decision could also have an impact on the team's strategy in the current Premier League season. Fans and experts will be watching closely to see how the situation surrounding the captain's armband develops and which players will play a central role in the coming games.
