Mohamed Salah: A legend at Liverpool FC

Over a nine-year period at Liverpool FC, Mohamed Salah rewrote the history books and played his way to the club's highest heights. His consistent performance and class on the Reds' right flank means his name is now mentioned in the same breath as legends such as Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard. Why should it be any different? With his mental strength, exceptional fitness, a multitude of impressive moments and, above all, his enormous goal rate, Salah has left a lasting impression. The Egyptian arrived at Anfield from AS Roma in the summer of 2017 for just under £40 million. Perhaps motivated by critics who cast doubt on his previous failed chapter at Chelsea, Salah was unstoppable from the first minute. Under the leadership of Jürgen Klopp, he formed an iconic attacking line alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané. In his debut season, Salah scored an incredible 44 goals - the second highest number in the club's history. Quick in and out of the ball, strong and versatile in his shots on goal, his trademark was a dribble inwards from the cross with a precise shot into the far corner. Klopp on him: "He created a position. For me I call it winger-striker. You defend the cross and when you have the ball you find a position where you can make a difference. And these guys, oh boy, they found it..." After the heartbreak of the 2018 Champions League final against Real Madrid, where a shoulder injury took him out of the game in the first half, Salah returned a year later. He achieved his personal and collective conclusion when he scored a second-minute penalty in the final against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid and Liverpool ultimately won 2-0 and won the title. This return was also reflected in the Premier League a year later. After 97 points, which were not enough for the title, Liverpool finally managed to win the championship in 2019/20 with 99 points. With 29 goals, Salah made a decisive contribution to the Reds winning a title again after 30 years. In the following four seasons he scored 31, 31, 30 and 25 goals, with his performance in the 2021/22 season particularly standing out. He scored a hat-trick in a historic 5-0 win over Manchester United and won both the League Cup and FA Cup. Salah, who was celebrated by the enthusiastic fans in the stadium, made it clear at the end of the 2023/24 season that winning trophies was the most important thing for him. "We know that titles count and we will do everything we can to achieve that next season. Our fans deserve this and we will fight until our last breath," he said. In 2024/25, Salah experienced his best season, in which he shone with 47 goals (29 goals, 18 assists) in the Premier League and thus made a significant contribution to defending his title. This earned him a second championship medal as well as his fourth Golden Boot and the PFA Player of the Year award. After a difficult ninth season, it was announced that Salah would bid an emotional farewell to Anfield in May and start a new chapter. He leaves Liverpool as the third highest goalscorer of all time, the top goalscorer in Europe and the Premier League and a true legend of the game.
