According to journalist Sergio Valentin, Rodri's move to Real Madrid is in the final phase. After weeks of negotiations, the Spanish international has reached personal agreements with the club. The final obstacle is that Manchester City must find a replacement before the transfer is approved. Rodri has made it clear from the start that if he leaves Manchester City this summer, he only wants to move to Real Madrid. The player's commitment has made negotiations much easier and Los Blancos have now reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with his representatives. Should the transfer be completed, Rodri is expected to sign a four-year contract that will tie him to the Santiago Bernabéu until after the 2030 World Cup, which will be played in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. According to the report, Jose Mourinho played a crucial role in turning the negotiations around. Following the Portuguese coach's arrival, Real Madrid accelerated their efforts to acquire Rodri, identifying him as the ideal midfielder for the club's upcoming sporting project. The transfer now depends on Manchester City's ability to sign a successor. Their preferred replacement is Ayyoub Bouaddi, Lille's highly rated Moroccan midfielder who impressed during the 2026 World Cup. Coach Enzo Maresca sees the young player as Rodri's long-term successor in City's midfield. The Premier League champions are unwilling to approve Rodri's departure until Bouaddi is signed. Manchester City are said to have encouraged interest from other clubs, including Barcelona, to create competition for Rodri's signature. However, this strategy didn't work. Rodri has shown no interest in considering any destination other than Real Madrid, effectively taking Barcelona out of the running before formal negotiations could even begin. With the player's side sorted, attention now turns to the transfer fee. According to the journalist, Los Blancos expect the final agreement to be between 65 and 75 million euros, a sum the club is willing to pay for one of Europe's best midfielders. Confidence in Valdebebas is growing. Real Madrid believe the agreement with Rodri is complete, the player remains committed to only joining the Spanish giants and Manchester City are actively working to sign Bouaddi. Should this final piece of the puzzle fall into place in the coming days, Rodri will be on the verge of becoming Real Madrid's new signing.

What happens next

Manchester City now face the challenge of finding a suitable replacement for Rodri before the transfer can be officially completed. Ayyoub Bouaddi is considered a potential successor, further complicating the situation. Should the transfer be successful, Rodri is expected to sign a four-year contract and take on a central role in Real Madrid's new sporting project.
