South Africa secured their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup with a narrow victory over South Korea thanks to a goal from Thapelo Maseko.
South Africa qualified for the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup with a 1-0 win over South Korea in Monterrey. Thapelo Maseko scored the decisive goal in the 63rd minute.
Maseko scored from close range after a shot from Itumeleng Khune, the South African goalkeeper, bounced off a South Korean defender.
Coach Hugo Broos' team had to wait until the second half to score the only goal of the game. In the first half, the two teams were still trying to defend themselves.
With this win, South Africa move into second place in Group D behind Brazil. In the round of 16 the team will face the group winners in Group C.
