Background

Calvin Twigt, a talented midfielder, has proven valuable during his loan spell at Willem II. His return could not only boost his personal development, but also support Willem II's ambitions in the Eredivisie, especially after playing an important role last season.

Why this is important

The return of Calvin Twigt could be crucial for Willem II as the team urgently needs reinforcements in midfield. Willem II has not yet given up hope that Calvin Twigt will return. The Tilburgers are again in negotiations with Go Ahead Eagles to secure a permanent signing for the 23-year-old midfielder, who played against his former team last Saturday. Twigt spent the second half of last season on loan at Willem II and quickly developed into an important figure in the team's midfield. In recent months, the promoted team made several attempts to bring the talented player back, but Go Ahead Eagles initially kept their doors closed. However, there now seems to be movement in the negotiations as both clubs are once again in talks to explore the possibility of taking over Twigt permanently. Interestingly, Twigt was still appearing for Go Ahead on Saturday when he came on as a substitute in the 75th minute. Coach Joseph Oosting currently prefers Melle Meulensteen and Evert Linthorst for the starting eleven and sees Twigt as the first alternative. After the game, several Go Ahead players sought contact with their former teammate. Devin Haen, a Willem II attacker, was positive about Twigt's possible return after the game: "It would be great if he came back. I think he would like to play for us again and it's obvious that he could help us. We had a lot of fun with him last year, but ultimately the decision is not ours." At Willem II, Twigt has the chance for a more important role, as the team urgently needs reinforcements in midfield under coach John Stegeman. One advantage is that Twigt is already familiar with the team and their style of play. The Amsterdam native himself is open to a return to Willem II. In addition to Twigt, the club also had Nils Rossen from Telstar in mind, but his future does not lie in Tilburg. On Saturday Willem II suffered a painful defeat against Go Ahead Eagles. Further information on the Tricolores' return to the Eredivisie will be provided on VI PRO. The negotiations about Calvin Twigt's return could soon come to a positive end, which could be of great importance for Willem II's squad planning. The prospect of Twigt's return could make a significant difference not only for him, but also for the entire Willem II team. A player who proved last season that he can make a difference would be a welcome reinforcement for the Tilburgers.

What happens next

Willem II and Go Ahead Eagles are in renewed discussions about a possible permanent signing of Twigt. If an agreement is reached, the 23-year-old player could soon wear the Tilburgers jersey again. Developments in the transfer market will be closely monitored as the summer transfer period still offers some opportunities to strengthen the squad.
