James Milner has announced he is hanging up his boots. At the age of 40 and as the record holder for the most appearances in the Premier League, he has announced his retirement from professional football. He overtook Gareth Barry in the all-time English league rankings when he started as a starter for Brighton against Brentford in February. The former Liverpool FC player ends his career with 658 Premier League appearances, five more than any other player. "After 24 seasons in the Premier League, I feel it is the right time to end my playing career," said the versatile Englishman. "From making my debut at 16 at Leeds United, my favorite childhood club, to becoming the Premier League's youngest goalscorer, I could never have dreamed of the journey I have experienced, including not being able to even lift a foot last year, to then returning and being part of the Brighton team that qualified for Europe for the second time in their history, at the age of 40." In a successful career, Milner won the Premier League three times: twice with Manchester City and once with Liverpool. He also secured a Champions League title, two FA Cups, two Carabao Cups and a World Cup title. He also made 61 appearances for the England national team over a seven-year period national career and played at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and the 2012 and 2016 UEFA European Championships.
