Neymar makes emotional comeback for Brazil in World Cup game against Scotland

Brazilian soccer star Neymar made an emotional comeback for the Selecao as Brazil beat Scotland 3-0 in the final group game of the 2026 World Cup. Neymar, who last appeared in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023, was a surprise call-up to the Brazil squad and had missed the first two games with a calf injury.

The 34-year-old recovered in time to be on the bench for the final group game against Scotland. He came on as a substitute for Matheus Cunha in the 76th minute when Brazil was already leading 3-0. Making his 129th international appearance as a substitute, the striker was visibly emotional and was photographed wiping tears from his eyes. After the final whistle, he hugged both his teammates and his family.



Despite being considered a Brazilian legend, Neymar currently plays for Santos in his homeland and narrowly avoided relegation last season. Despite strong competition in the starting XI, which also includes Vini Jr., Raphinha and Matheus Cunha, he put in an appealing performance in his brief appearance against Scotland.

With this win, Brazil secures first place in Group C ahead of Morocco and will face the runners-up in Group F, which includes the Netherlands, Japan and Sweden, in their next game. This crucial game will take place on Monday, June 29th in Houston.
