Queensland attempted to reduce the deficit but another attempt from Joji Fifita was disallowed due to an offside call before the try. Instead, Cleary increased the score to 26-12 with a converted penalty.
Shortly before the end, Hudson Young scored another try to make the final score 30-12. Cleary not only celebrated the victory, but was also awarded the Wally Lewis Medal as Player of the Series. This impressive performance makes New South Wales the fourth team to win a final at Suncorp Stadium, home of Queensland.
